After many years of wandering to the most remote places of Tyrol, the Musical Pilgrimage returns via the Way of St. James to its starting point in Schwaz. Since its inception in 2006, it has been led by the notable St James’s Way expert Peter Lindenthal and his docile canine assistant Arvo. Weaving historic lore with storytelling, the anniversary pilgrimage starts out on the mountain slope of Stanser Joch at the foot of the Karwendel range. It leads from Jenbach to SchlossTratzberg, a picturesque Renaissance castle, continuing on to the Kapelle Maria Tax, a cozy chapel, and after quite a climb reaches both the highlight and the high point of the hike: St. Georgenberg, a romantic hermitage and pilgrimage site. From there, a steep descent takes participants through the Wolfsklamm, an untamed gorge, to the late Gothic church in the village of Stans, then to the Fiecht abbey, and back to Schwaz via the loud and heavily trafficked Inn valley. The final concert will take place beneath the original timber roof framework of the late Gothic parish church of Schwaz. All in all there will be six concert stops along the way, featuring music by the wind ensemble Windkraft Tirol – a partner of KLANGSPUREN since the early days – with works by Ursula Mamlok, Elisabeth Lutyens, and Manuela Kerer; improvisations by the violinist Biliana Voutchkova; the cellist Séverine Ballon with works by J.S. Bach and Rebecca Saunders; improvisations by the double bassist Nina Polaschegg and her electronics partner Bruno Strobl; and the recorder player and installation artist Angélica Castelló. For the 25th anniversary edition of the KLANGSPUREN festival the Musical Pilgrimage is a ritornello: it leads back to the place where everything began – in Schwaz.

Free shuttle service from Schwaz to Innsbruck (after a meal of pilgrimage soup, around 9:00 p.m.).
