LAURIE ANDERSON – THE LANGUAGE OF THE FUTURE

8 p.m., Silbersaal im SZentrum, Silbersaal, Andreas-Hofer-Str. 10, Schwaz

Laurie Anderson text, voice, violin, live electronics, visuals (1984-2017)

Laurie Anderson – world-renowned figurehead of a poetic and technologically sophisticated performance art between storytelling, music, and images – will close the Festival with her calling into question of everyday madness in search of a future-oriented language. The Language of the Future is a collection of songs, stories, films, and photos about the cultural state of the present. Since 1984, when she was a guest on Nam June Paik’s legendary satellite TV show Good Morning Mr. Orwell, Laurie Anderson has examined the American image of itself and its narration as a constantly revised work in progress. With a sure sense of succinct poetic expression all her own, her unpretentious humor, and mix of sharp wit and mild irony, she navigates between reality and her image in the mass media, between dream, nightmare, and sobriety. Her inimitable, cool friendliness pairs up with the technological distortion of her voice and her sample-enhanced electronically processed violin playing to create a contemplative, melancholy liminal state.

“I start almost every show with a description of where I am. A location. I’ve always felt like a nomad. I travel between many scenes – the art world, the music world, the world of political activism, and the world of books and ideas. I love to keep moving.”
