Sexuality and the erotic only play a sad and neglected role in new music, a shadowy existence, unlike in other artistic fields and in particular the highly sexualized sector of pop culture, or so curator and music critic Monika Pasiecznik claims. Something ought to be done to pull the erotic out of the shadows, because according to Darwin music and sound are from an evolutionary standpoint constitutively linked with sex, and the sounds of contemporary music can also be connoted as erotic. For the vocal performer Frauke Aulbert and the keyboarder and pianist Małgorzata Walentynowicz Monika Pasiecznik has put together a varied program around the themes of sex, love, feminism, and the erotic. Under the pretty title Série Rose (a work by Pierre Jodlowski) the program ranges from Sonata Erotica by Erich Schulhoff to works by Brigitta Muntendorf, Johannes Kreidler, Niels Rønsholdt, and Juliana Hodkinson. All in all, examining new music in terms of its erotic power and relevance promises to be a scintillating task.
