Juliet Fraser Sopran

Mark Knoop Klavier

The double recital given by soprano Juliet Fraser and pianist Mark Knoop presents two of the UK’s most talented and dedicated young interpreters of new music. Along with her solo activity Juliet Fraser is also a member of the phenomenal vocal ensemble for new music EXAUDI. Mark Knoop is also active as a conductor of new music. The program shows voice together with exterior acoustic-musical sources as a catalyst for compositional points of departure. Peter Ablinger’s Voices and Piano is a cycle of to date 53 “lieder“, in which the piano does not accompany the voice but conducts a temporal-spectral analysis of voice recordings of famous political and cultural figures. Tracery is a collaborative work in progress by Juliet Fraser and the Canadian composer Cassandra Miller. Fraser reacts in the sense of “automatic singing” to recordings of mostly non-notated popular music. The parts completed so far are entitled Hardanger – Lazy, Rocking – The Slits. Bernhard Lang takes apart, “shreds”, familiar compositions and styles in his Monadologie cycle, whereby Number XXXII deconstructs Franz Schubert’s Winterreise as a double cold trip.
